Garden Tour - May 27, 2013

We went away on a weekend vacation to Williamsburg, VA. We came back to very tall peas.

Basil.

Cilantro.

The peas are ready for shelling.

More string beans.

Yellow squash.

Zucchini.

Fuzzy pics of pickling cucumbers.

The tomatoes are getting very big.

Strawberries.

Sugar snap peas.

Strawberry popcorn.

Artichokes.

Did you notice some extra fencing?
A little weird looking and hard to step over, but necessary.
I have a million and one rabbits in my yard.
This cute one is the size of my hand.

We had to add the extra fencing to stop them from getting into the garden.
As I am looking out my window, there are four of them.
I think they live in the neighbors yard, under their shed.
The Peanut said they think our yard is the supermarket.
I think she's right.

And the rest of the Garden Tour....

Whenever I try to post a bunch of pics from Picassa,
invariably some don't post for reasons unknown.

Anyway, isn't this bush pretty.
No clue what it is, but I like it.

The purple irises my mom planted a million years ago
continue to come back every year without me ever
digging up or dividing anything.

Tarragon.

Oregano.

Thyme.

My mom gave me a rosemary plant she started from one of her bushes.
It sat sadly in the house not growing.
It basically looked brown, dried and dead, but I planted it outside anyway.

Two years later, it's now growing!
Hopefully I'll wind up with a ginormous rosemary bush like my moms.

Garden Tour - May 13, 2013

I have the herb garden in the front,
but I thought why not do more in some pots.
Cilantro, basil, thyme, oregano...and something, but I forgot what...

The cilantro has sprouted.  The rest...just a smidge...

I swear the peas grow a foot every time it rains.

I have a forest of mint.

String beans!

Yellow squash is growing, the green ones are just flowering.

The cantaloupes are doing nicely.

How cute are these cucumbers?!

Eighteen tomato plants.  Let's hope they survive amidst the weird weather.
What kinds you ask...um, let's see...
Prudens Purple, Box Car Willie, Big Red, Big Rainbow,
Black Krim, Roma, Abe Lincoln, Beefsteak, Cherry,
Matt's Wild Cherry and Rose de Berne.
We bought new, bigger cages this year.
Last year, the small ones all toppled over.

Most of them have flowers.

The Peanut has her own boxes.  Strawberries...transplanted from
the box on the side of the house.

She already has a few strawberries growing.

Her sugar snap peas are doing great.

And the strawberry popcorn...yes I know they're planted too close together.
Whatever, let's see how it goes.

I am so excited about the artichokes.

This was a raspberry bush.  Now it's a tree.
How many pounds of raspberries do I harvest every year?
None.  The birds eat them all.

They also eat all the blueberries.

We picked up two rain barrels on freecycle.
The Hubby set up one.  The other will be set up soon.

The peas on the left are from seeds I saved from last year.
The peas on the right are from old, old, expired ones.
Obviously, the age of the seeds matter.

I can't wait for consistently warm weather.
And bees.  Where are the bees?
Maybe I did start my seeds too early...
Time will tell, wish me luck.
